Flat Lay Measurements.
How to use them to order the perfect fit!

What are Flat Lay Measurements?

You might notice some of our products listings include Flat Lay Measurements.

With Flat Lay Measurements, we lay the garment on the counter and measure from one side of the garment to the other.

Flat Lay Measurements

We usually only do this measurement where we feel there is a critical fit. Often it is just the bust measurement on a dress. If the sleeves are more fitted we will include a measurement for there, as well as any other areas we feel are relevant and require measuring.

Important note: All our Flat Lay measurements are approximate, there is no guarantee that every item will be the same due to the nature of the manufacturing process. It is not viable for every garment to be measured before sending.

You can compare that measurement to a similar dress you have in your wardrobe. Just be careful that they are the same type of fabric, you don’t want to compare a stretch fabric with a Rayon which has no stretch.

Sometimes we measure the waist of pants and dresses that have elastic. We will include a measurement unstretched and then stretch the elastic to about 90% capacity and include a measurement of that.

Points to note with a Flatlay Measurement

  1. Try not to go with a tight fit, allow at least a couple of cm wiggle room or more depending on the style.
  2. Some styles are meant to be worn loose so have a good look at the modelling photos to determine if this is the case.
  3. These measurements are just a guide, if you are worried please contact us with your measurements and we can advise best fit.
  4. STRETCH fabrics are too hard to measure like this, it is best to observe how the item fits the model and any other fit recommendations we might have. Stretch is usually a little more forgiving.

Items like jeans and super stretchy items are difficult to do Flat lay with. It is best to read our descriptions for advice.

Here is examples of the text we will write.

The XS bust measurement of 43cm would have a circumference of 86cm - i.e. you double the measurement. You would then check to see if there is any elastic in that area, is it meant to be worn as a tight fit on the bust.

Flatlay Measurements:

BUST

XS - 43 CM = 86cm circumference

SM - 45 CM = 90cm circumference

ML - 47 CM

XL - 50 CM

HIPS

XS - 55 CM = 110cm circumference

SM - 57 CM

ML - 59 CM

XL - 61 CM

LENGTH WAIST TO BOTTOM OF OUTFIT SIDE SEAM

XS - 105 CM = Don't double this measurement . We estimate where the waist would sit. Some items we might measure from centre back to bottom of outfit.

Some terms to look out for:

RELAXED FIT - Generally means the item is generous in sizing and you may need to size down. It is best to contact us if you are concerned.

TRUE TO SIZE - Means that the item is generally True to Size for that brand only. As there are no standard sizing in Australia every brand is different. Even some brands can vary wildly in their sizing between styles. Jaase is one brand that has some big variances between styles.

Despite our best efforts sometimes certain styles don't suit all body shapes. If you receive something you aren't happy with please contact us to discuss something that maybe more suitable for your body shape.
